At a Crossroads?….Hit The Road

From my own experience throughout my Christian walk I have come to  forks in the road, tree stumps or boulders blocking my way, bends in the road, and the proverbial crossroad. For me the crossroad has always signified it Sentwas time to change direction, go a new way.

I can remember when we were a young family, full of love for God and at a crossroad. We were looking for a new direction. So with our two young ones (and  a pregnant wife), a heart full of faith we hit the road for Jesus. That was the beginning of a new exciting, rich and rewarding life.

When Jesus  sent out his disciples according to Mark 6:7-8 (And he called his twelve (disciples) unto him and sent forth by two and two….and commanded them that they should take nothing for their journey, save a staff only; no scrip, no bread, no money in their purse..KJV), He knew what He was doing.

I believe Jesus did this so the disciples could get a taste of what God can do when we leave the comforts of the security of our daily lives and go out with nothing but God’s promises. He specifically on this occasion told them not to take anything because Jesus knew that God would supply and it was important for the disciples to learn to live by faith, trust God for their needs and if you read on you will see that He didn’t fail. He never does.

I can attest to that because all the times we went out and hit the road for Jesus he never failed. That first launching out by faith we made many years ago gave us first hand knowledge that He was always going to supply if did our part by GOING.

We  bought ourselves a fully contained Combi Van  and went out not knowing where we were going but we knew God was with us. It was a long time ago and the specifics are somewhat blurry but I can say without a shadow of a doubt that God in those times on the road increased our faith for supply, purpose and miracles (mostly little ones).

If you have come to a crossroads,  a place that you feel you need to make a decision on what direction to go for God, if your situation can allow for you to do something out of the ordinary and crazy. If you feel the need to shake off the cobwebs of a daily routine and are prepared to give up the security of  our normal everyday lives,  for freedom and uncertainty and an exciting lifestyle,  then hitting the road for Jesus could be just for you.

Can you feel the tug on your heart? I can. Oh my, what am I saying?  Are we never to old to live by faith? I don’t think God put a used by date on sending his disciples out to preach the gospel to every creature.

And in a day and age where it seems that education and labels and fancy letters next to our names are associated with being  mature educated Christians, remember that most of Jesus original disciples were simple fisherman or fairly normal people.

What do you say? Are you up for it?

Let me know so I can pray for you in what I found to be some of the most exciting times in my life and walk with the Lord.

Are you being SENT?  Then GO.

  1. Loved it! Practical advise with a great message. Thank you!!!

    • Thanks Jason, I appreciate your encouragement. I truly loved those days and my wife and I are looking to the day we can have a grand finale on the road. Ha.

  2. Thanks for the encouraging words of faith-building and taking steps. Once saved, our walk with the Lord is a series of action steps that bring God’s desired results. Example: James 4:7-9: Submit to God; resist the devil and he will flee; draw close to God and He will draw close to you…humble yourself before God and He will lift you up!

  3. Encouraging post! Thank you!
